Snow has been falling on higher mountain slopes on both sides of the Atlantic over the past few days and forecasting models are projecting up to 30cm (a foot) of fresh snow could fall in the next 36 hours on some glacier ski areas in the Alps that are already open for 16-17, including at Pitztal in Austria, Val Senales in Italy and Zermatt in Switzerland.

Across the Atlantic Snow has been reported in BC, Wyoming (Jackson Hole), Montana and Colorado over the past 48 hours with Loveland in Colorado (pictured yesterday), one of the highest ski areas in the world and usually one of the first non-glacier ski areas in the world to open each season by mid-October, saying it expects to start snowmaking on 29th September.

Back in Europe snow was reported on high slopes at resorts including Les 2 Alpes and Val Thorens and even down in the Pyrenees on the mountain tops near Formigal in Spain.
