New Zealand Ski Area to Re-Open for Summer Skiing after Freak Snowfall
Published : 23-Nov-2018 03:44
Cardrona ski area in New Zealand has announced it will re-open for 'snow fun' a week on Saturday (1st December) - the first day of meteorological summer in the southern hemisphere.
The decision follows a freak snowstorm which a resort spokesperson said meant that the resort has seen a 'significant snowfall' every month of 2018. Exactly how much fell has not been published, but from the images it looks a lot.
The snow in New Zealand follows 10cm snowfalls in Australia earlier this week.
"Finding our mountain bike and mountain cart trails in time for Opening Day on December 1 has been a little bit tricky," a Cardrona spokesperson said, Adding, "Our trail team are doing their absolute best to get biking & carting going, but in the meantime when life gives you snow, you gotta make a snowball and throw it back... right?!"
The resort's McDougall's Chondola will be operating on 1st December for snow play, snow tubing, and beginner skiing.
