Aspen Ski Area Expansion Gets Forest Service Approval
Aspen Ski Area Expansion Gets Forest Service Approval

Long standing plans to expand the historic Aspen Mountain ski area have cleared another hurdle with the US Forest Service approving the proposals.
The Aspen Ski lift Company want to add 180 acres of terrain to the ski area which is one of four that make up the Aspen Snowmass resort, and the only one within walking distance of much of the City of Aspen.
The expansion would include nearly 80 acres of groomed runs and just over 100 acres of ungroomed 'gladed' tree skiing, all of which would be served by a new high-speed quad chairlift.
The plans also include the installation of more snowmaking to ensure top-to-bottom snowmaking coverage which resort managers hope will ensure good conditions in early season.
The final approvals required are from the ski area's local government and if these are given the Aspen ski company hopes the lift will be installed and new terrain added in time for the 2020-21 ski season.
