SkiBro Brings Back Ski Area Guiding
SkiBro Brings Back Ski Area Guiding
Published : 16-Jan-2020 12:15
SkiBro, the online platform that aims to make it simple to compare and book ski schools, independent instructors and guides says it has brought back the "ski-guiding" or "Ski hosting" service that a number of tour operators used to offer skiers at the start of their holidays to introduce them to the local region.
After many skirmishes over the decades, the service finally ell foul of the authorities in 2014, particularly in France, as the staff employed by tour operators to lead groups did not always have ski teaching or guiding qualifications and, although some legal cases continue and Neilson and others have reintroduced some version of the service, it has largely been dropped.
SkiBro's new guiding service isn't free and as yet is only offered at a handful of resorts, but the company say they'll be expanding coverage later this season.
Costing from €50/person, the guided ski area discovery sessions take place on Sundays and Mondays and wont upset the local piste police as they'll be delivered by fully-qualified local instructors. They are available currently in Val d'Isere / Tignes, Meribel / Courchevel and Chamonix, with further resorts due to be added in March 2020.
"The service will be of particular interest to skiers and snowboarders new to a resort, looking to get to grips with a new ski area and find its best-kept secrets early in their week," said SkiBro's Matt Carr.
