Val Gardena prepares to host the World's Longest Giant Slalom

Published : 19-Mar-2025 08:09

On Saturday March 29, Val Gardena will host amateur and pro athletes on the six-kilometre long Gardenissima course.

2025 will be the 27th edition of the 'Südtirol Gardenissima' – the longest giant slalom in the world.

Around 700 skiers from 24 different countries will gather at the Col Raiser cable car to take on the challenge: 115 gates and a vertical drop of over 1000 meters.

The start is located at 2518m above sea level. Over the first 1500m, two skiers compete in an head-to-head parallel race before the two tracks merge into one, leading them to the finish line at 1485m, at the Col Raiser cable car base station in Selva di Val Gardena.

Among the well-known names in the men's category are Dominik Paris, Christof Innerhofer and Florian Schieder, while the women's category features Nicol and Nadia Delago, Vicky Bernardi and Sara Thaler among others.

Legendary skiers taking part include Kristian Ghedina, Carlo Janka and Paola Magoni.

The 'Südtirol Gardenissima' is the extraordinary opportunity for both participants and spectators to meet World Cup athletes and legends up close — and even compete against them in this one-of-a-kind race.

The race marks the final highlight of the ski season, although the lifts in Val Gardena will remain open until 06 April.
