Snow Forecast Summary - January 15th 2009

Published : 15-Jan-2009 10:38

The mostly settled weather of the past week is about to change...

Weather and Snow Next Week

A series of weather systems will cross The Alps over the coming week, in a complete change to the cold and clear conditions prevailing for much of this month so far.

Wetter, warmer air will push in from the West over this weekend - with the North Western Alpine area in the immediate track. Light cloud on Saturday will give way to stormier conditions on Sunday. Initially temperatures will rise to bring rain up as far as 1500 metres, with snow above of course. Precipitation is likely to be quite heavy from late on Sunday through into Monday.

Subsequently, temperatures should fall quickly below the seasonal average (by early next week) - with successive bands of snow falling to progressively lower levels.

Although it's outside the reliable time-scale of the forecast models, there are strong indications that further snow will follow over the following week - perhaps through the rest of the month. We expect our Powder Alarms to be popping this weekend (have you set yours?) and we'll be on the case (and on the snow)...

Ooooo
