Snow Forecast Summary - 29th October 2010
Published : 29-Oct-2010 04:01
Following last weekends exciting new snows we've had a spell of clearer weather, with milder than normal temperatures, across most of the European Alps. That looks set to change again, particularly for the North and West of the Alpine region.European Weather and Snow Next Week
Over the past 24 hours or so the various forecast models have converged very nicely to predict a significant snow event to start November. Effects are likely to be greatest in the North Western Alps (Northern French Alps, West Switzerland) but some snow should fall just about everywhere early next week.
Temperatures will fall steadily over the next few days to below their seasonal average by early next week, bringing the freezing level down toward 1,500 metres. That will be accompanied by heavy precipitation and we expect heavy snow at altitude (below 2,000 metres, perhaps to 1,500 metres) by late on Monday.
Beyond the middle of next week the outlook is quite unsettled, although more snow is possible late in the week.
