Austria's Silvretta ski area has opened today, immediately announcing a 'powder alarm' for 22cm of snow in the past 24 hours.
The ski area, which is running its Zamang and Panorama lifts to access the slopes has announced near perfect conditions for its opening weekend.
There are 7km of runs open with about 45cm of snow depth and daytime temperatures hovering just above zero Celcius.
Silvretta is the 11th area in Austria to open for the season, following the country's eight glacier ski areas and Kitzbuhel in September and October. Schladming opened in Planai slopes too in the past few days.
The country received substantial snowfalls last weekend with up to 1m of new sow on the glaciers and a further significant snowfall is forecast for the coming 48 hours.
