Tour Op Issues Travel Warning for New Year week Arrivals in the Alps

Published : 29-Dec-2017 01:22

A tour operator has joined French ski resorts in issuing a travel advisory to anyone heading to the Alps this weekend, particularly for tomorrow, Saturday 30th December.

Following huge snowfalls on Wednesday and Thursday this week with up to 80cm reported falling in 24 hours, a second, similar heavy snowfall is forecast for Saturday across large parts of the Alps.
This is combined with Saturday being one of the change-over day for one of the busiest weeks of the year.

"Heavy snow is likely to cause delays this coming Saturday, particularly in the busiest areas of the Northern French Alps. Our resort teams and transfer partners have adapted their plans and will do their utmost to minimise disruption," a spokesperson for Ski Famille said.

Those who are driving to the Alps themselves are urged to take particular care and ensure that they have snow chains, as well as food and water supplies in the car.

Peisey-Vallandry ski resort between Les Arcs and La Plagne issued a warning that there will be snow on the roads tomorrow and that using chains will be compulsory.

Ski Famille advise travellers follow information posted by 'Préfet de la Savoie' for up to date route information for the Tarantaise Valley (serving 3 Valleys and La Plagne).
