Snow Forecast for First of 2018 February Half Term Holiday Weekends Tomorrow

Published : 09-Feb-2018 02:23

Snow is expected to start falling in the Alps overnight tonight ahead of the first arrivals for the peak half-term holiday period.

Current forecasts are for relatively modest accumulations on Saturday of perhaps 4-8cm and then progressively bigger falls on Sunday and Monday.

Following the huge snowfalls in the first three weeks of January it's the first snowfall for over a week at some resorts following clear, dry days; and for several weeks at many.

However with Saturday being the main change over day with the biggest number of arrivals since New year week expected, resorts are warning people to be prepared for possible delays and for drivers in particular to be prepared for winter driving conditions.

Les Arcs say that snow chains are recommended in case new snow falls as forecast.

It's also worth noting that temperatures are currently very low in the Alps with many resorts above 1500m reporting temperatures of between -10C and -20C
