Ski Resort in French Pyrenees Forced To Close On Busiest Weekend of Season

Porte Puymorens in the French Pyrenees has announced it is having to close today, Saturday, February 10th due to heavy snow and strong winds.

Since the start of February the Pyrenees have seen some of the heaviest snowfalls in Europe with resorts on the French side seeing the heaviest snow with up to 105m in 72 hours reported a week ago.

A statement issued by Porte Puymorens states,
"Due to the blizzard and wind, the visibility and state of the roads, the station will be closed this Saturday 10 February. They already accumulates more than 30 cm of new snow."

This weekend is one of the busiest of the season for ski areas in France as the February school holidays get started there and in many other European countries from which families go to ski in France.
