Verbier To Open For 18-19 Season This Friday

Published : 31-Oct-2018 11:17

Verbier (pictured above today) has announced this morning that they'll be opening some terrain in the Lac des Vaux sector this Friday November 2nd and through the weekend following 60cm (two feet) of snowfall over the past three days.

"Thanks to this snowfall and the machine-made snow, we can open our slopes from Friday 2 November with excellent conditions," a resort statement reads, noting that the plan is to open the Attelas-Ruinettes sector next, depending on weather and snowmaking operations over the coming weeks.

Access to the open slopes from Verbier and the valley below will be provided by the Le Châble - Verbier gondola, the Verbier gondola to Les Ruinettes and the Funispace lifts.

The ski runs will be served directly by the Chairlift Lac des Vaux 1 with a one day adult pass priced at CHF 42- per day.

The slopes will be open every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) through November with daily opening scheduled from early December.

The Andermatt ski area as well as Engelberg's Titlis glacier and the Glacier 3000 ski area above Gstaad and Les Diablerets also appear to be opening this weekend. Davos, which has already opened some cross country runs, is also talking about opening some runs.

There have been big snowfalls across higher slopes in the Swiss Alps with the Diavolezza Glacier near St Moritz claiming 175cm (nearly six feet) of snow since Sunday and Zermatt issuing powder alarms, whilst Saas Fee is currently closed whilst snow is cleared. More heavy snow is forecast tomorrow.
