Published : 23-Apr-2019 05:11

Two new chairlifts are due to start operating on Australian ski slopes in June, when the country's 2019 ski season kicks off.

New quad and six seater chairlifts have been installed at Perisher and Mt Buller resorts whilst Falls creek are upgrading their Gully chair to make it run faster.

The new Doppelmayr 6-seater chairlift on Mt Buller's Bourke Street will be much faster than its predecessor making the ascent in just over two minutes.

Perisher's new Leichhardt quad is an upgrade of a T-bar and will also increases capacity and uplift speed on the route.

The coming winter is likely to be a season like no other for Aussie skiers and boarders after American corporate ski resort giants Vail Resorts purchased two more of the country's five largest ski areas.

Vail now own three of the five biggest resorts: Perisher, Falls Creek and Mount Hotham and included them on its Epic pass season ticket. The other two in the top five, Mt Buller and Thredbo, have joined the competing Ikon Pass.

The Australian ski season will start on the holiday weekend of June 7-10 2019.
