Snowboxx Returns to Avoriaz

Snowboxx will return to Avoriaz from 14–21 March 2025 for its 12th edition, with organisers confirming a full week of skiing, live music and après‑ski across the French resort. The line‑up includes headline sets from Fatboy Slim, Josh Baker, Wilkinson and Andy C, supported by a wider roster of DJs and performers appearing throughout the week.

Sun and snow, from the Kitzsteinhorn, Zell-am-See, Austria

Huge snow across the western US, with up to 90 inches (2.3 m/8 feet) reported in California, while the Alps and Pyrenees have had heavy snow followed by sunnier, milder weather and persistent high avalanche risk. Scandinavia, Scotland and parts of North America remain in good shape and Canada has seen fresh powder.

UN[PARA]LD project to address lack of outdoor clothing for disabled people

[b]A new initiative launching at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympics is challenging what it describes as a long-standing failure within the outdoor clothing industry to properly serve disabled people.

The UN[PARA]LD project has been unveiled in the run-up to Milan-Cortina Games. It aims to promote awareness that paralympic athletes frequently have to adapt or alter their own technical clothing in order to train and compete.

Team Selected for Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games

Great Britain's most decorated winter Paralympian is among the final 12 athletes to be selected to represent ParalympicsGB at the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games which takes place in Italy next month from 06-15 March.

Six-time Paralympic medallist Menna Fitzpatrick, who made her Games debut in Pyeongchang eight years ago, will line up alongside guide Katie Guest in the Para Alpine events in Cortina d'Ampezzo following a period of rehabilitation from injury.

Avalanche danger remains high in Alps

[b]The Alps are currently on course for a tragically record-breaking number of fatalities this winter due to avalanches. The picture above shows a recent avalanche on Chanrossa in Courchevel.

The number is constantly changing, but as of 21 February 2026, the European Avalanche Warning Services (EAWS) had confirmed 99 deaths, distributed by country as shown below:

Britain's Zoe Atkin Takes Bronze in Olympic Freeski Halfpipe

Britain's Zoe Atkin rounded off the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics with a superb bronze medal in the women's freeski halfpipe, securing Team GB's fifth podium of the Games and reinforcing the Atkin family's remarkable Olympic pedigree.

The 21‑year‑old came out firing, producing a composed and stylish opening run that briefly put her in the lead. Her height, flow and precision set an early benchmark and underlined her intent to challenge for the top step. But as the final progressed, China's Eileen Gu surged ahead with a commanding second run, while her teammate followed with another high‑scoring display to complete a Chinese one‑two and push Atkin into third.

Huge falls across the Alps, Pyrenees and the US Pacific Coast, forcing closures and pushing avalanche danger to the maximum. Scotland, the Pyrenees and eastern North America are enjoying their best seasons in years, while Japan continues to report huge bases.

Avalanche damage forces Châtelet Chairlift in Méribel to close for season

[b]The Châtelet chairlift in Méribel in the Les 3 Vallées ski area has been seriously damaged after a controlled avalanche unexpectedly hit the lift.

On Tuesday morning, ski patrol teams in Méribel-Mottaret were working on planned explosions to release unstable snow. However, a significant mass of snow hit and buried part of the base station of the lift, causing damage to the first pylon.

Kirsty Muir finishes 4th (again) at Winter Olympics in Livigno

Team GB's Kirsty Muir claimed 4th place in the Ski Big Air at the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics yesterday, just missing out a medal for the second time in a week.

The 21-year-old learned her skiing on a dry slope in Aberdeen but has already represented Great Britain at two Winter Olympic Games, following her debut at Beijing 2022.

Deep Snowcover in Western Alps After More than 2m Of Snowfall

Several French ski resorts posted mote than 2m of snowfall over 72 hours at the end of last week, the biggest of the season to date.

As high avalanche danger closed many slopes and led to a road network slowdown, the timing wasn't ideal just as the busy half-term holiday period was getting underway. Le Grand Bornand is pictured above on Thursday 12th. By Friday afternoon however, the skies had cleared and the wind eased and the weekend saw great conditions as slopes were made safe to reopen. Chatel is pictured below on Friday 13th.

Val d'Isere, and much of the French Alps, looks like this right now...

Heavy snowfall has hit Europe, bringing up to 1.5 m (5 ft) in parts of the Alps and Italy with extreme avalanche danger, major resort closures and widespread cold, while Scotland reports its best snow in five years, eastern North America faces intense cold, and powder conditions continue in Japan.

Huge Snowfalls, Max Avalanche Danger & Gales Close Resorts in Alps & Pyrenees

Extremely heavy snowfall and strong winds has led to avalanche danger reaching the maximum "very high" 5/5 in parts of the French Alps including the Tarentaise Valley. As a result most resorts only have limited terrain, considered safe, close to their bases open today. La Plagne, where a British skier died in an avalanche after a heavy snowfall event last month, has decided to close its slopes completely.

Italy's Pila Aiming To Stay Open Into May

Pila, in Italy's Aosta Valley has opened a new lift this season which its hoped will allow the resort to stay open into May.

The new Pila–Couis gondola lift, transforms access to the upper ski area. Replacing two chairlifts, the 10-seater cabins with panoramic windows reach Couis 1 (2,700 m) in 15 minutes, offering a comfortable ride for all visitors.

Eddie ‘The Eagle’ third in poll of ‘Top Winter Olympic Moments’

Research by Readly has placed Eddie the Eagle's ski jumping performance at Calgary in 1988 as their third favourite 'Winter Olympic Moment'.

Top of the list was Torvill and Dean winning gold with Boléro at the Sarajevo games in 1984, followed by the Jamaican bobsleigh team's in Calgary 1988.

Survey Finds Ski Rental Experience Getting Better

Ski rental giant SKiSET has released new survey findings showing a significant shift in how skiers and snowboarders choose and book their equipment, with 90% saying the rental experience has improved over the past decade.

The survey, distributed to more than 140,000 UK skiers and snowboarders, highlights growing expectations around choice, convenience and brand trust. Three‑quarters of respondents said the rental brand matters when selecting equipment, while almost half want a wider range of models available, including the latest releases.

Lindsey Vonn to race in Olympics despite ACL injury

[b]US skier Lindsey Vonn has confirmed that she plans to compete at the Winter Olympics despite tearing her ACL last Friday.

The 41-year-old, a four-time overall World Cup champion and Olympic gold medallist, revealed that she will continue to race while managing the injury, following extensive consultation with medical specialists.
